Lucky Bamboo and Sunlight

Lucky Bamboo and Sunlight

“Don’t put lucky bamboo in sunlight! It will kill it!” That one phrase has scared more people than  "Boo"  on Halloween.

While it is true, it is not as near fatal as it sounds. Most people have the same problem with the bright sun as the lucky bamboo. If you stay out in the sun without protection, you get burnt. Just ask any tourist from Minnesota on the beach too long in Florida without sunblock.

Lucky bamboo requires a lot of bright light for growth. Bright light, not sunlight. The natural growth environment for the lucky bamboo is at the bottom of a rainforest. The canopy protects the lucky bamboo from the sun most of the day, but holes allow the sun through for hours at a time. The lucky bamboo adapts and survives. A reasonable amount of sun will produces new growth and a darker green color. Watch your plant till you know when enough is enough. A pale plant may benefit from a sun bath once in awhile to get that dark green color.
